When could I stop paying for Child Support/Emancipation?

  • In New Jersey, you can stop paying child support when the child is emancipated.
  • A child is considered to be emancipated if the child no longer lives at home, has graduated from school, and is beyond requiring emotional and financial support. In New Jersey, 18 is not the magic number.
